What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture originated in China more than 3,000 years ago and is used to treat illness, prevent disease and improve total well-being. By inserting sterile, disposable needles in designated points in the body, the practitioner stimulates and balances the flow of “chi”, which is the body’s natural energy or life force. Acupuncture not only helps correct chronic conditions, but it also helps prevent disease by strengthening the natural immune system.

How Acupuncture Works?

Recently, science has determined that human beings are complex bioelectric systems. This understanding has been the foundation of acupuncture practice for several thousand years. Energy is believed to circulate throughout the body along 14 well-defined energy pathways or meridians. Points on the skin along these pathways are energetically connected to specific organs, body structures, and systems.

These energy pathways can be blocked and disrupted resulting in negative health outcomes. Through the stimulation of well defined acupuncture points the energy pathways can again be reconnected and balanced, the body’s vitality is restored and the body begins to heal itself.

Acupuncture stimulates the production of endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers. Acupuncture blocks the transmission of pain signals to the brain and increases circulation in the problem area, thus promoting tissue regeneration. Acupuncture effectively deactivates trigger points. These points are overly sensitive spots beneath the skin that sometimes “trigger” pain or other symptoms into a “reference” zone, an area in a different part of the body, either close or far away.

Is it safe?

Out of many millions of treatments in the West in the past two decades, very few problems have been reported. Currently, state and federal agencies have established strict procedures for needle sterilization. We only use pre-sterilized, disposable needles.

How Acupuncture Feels?

During an acupuncture treatment, specialized acupuncture needles, that are about the size of a thick hair, are inserted at points of the energy pathways. After the insertion of the needles, patients can experience different energetic sensations such as warmth or pressure. Many patients describe the sensation as an unfamiliar but pleasant and relaxing feeling. Over the centuries, refined needle insertion techniques have been developed which enable the skilled acupuncturist to place a needle with little or no sensation for a majority of patients.

Western Medicine Recognizes Acupuncture’s Effectiveness

More and more Western doctors and scientists agree that acupuncture works. The World Health Organization ,WHO has publicly recognized that acupuncture is suitable for the treatment of many disorders including physical, psychological and emotional problems. In recent years, acupuncture has been embraced throughout the world as result of its effectiveness.

Natural Solution

Acupuncture works by promoting the body’s own natural healing ability and is a comprehensive system of preventive health care and health maintenance. The effectiveness of acupuncture is well documented and extends far beyond the conception that it is only useful for chronic pain management or as an analgesic. Many athletes have discovered that acupuncture treatment helps them to achieve optimum performance levels. Recently, acupuncture detoxification treatments have been recognized as a valid form of therapy for chemical dependency problems. Throughout its long history, acupuncture has established a solid reputation as a system of health care that works.
